Happy Birthday Jesus

!!Merry Christmas!!

I'm grateful to be a child of God and am able to celebrate this holiday for what is truly is.......Jesus' birthday. (well, sort of - we know it's not his exact b'day but you know what I mean!)

With all the loss my family and friends have encountered this year I am reminded how precious every second is. I have many regrets, as I'm sure many do, about the phone call I didn't make or the hug I didn't give or even the smile I didn't provide. I hope that I am able to do a better job of letting everyone know what they mean to me all the time. Not just time of sorrow or on their birthday's, etc.

Much love to all and many blessings on each of your lives!

The Twilight Saga: New Moon

I am soooo pumped about New Moon that I can hardly sit still. I watched Twilight again last night and now I'm even more excited about 11/20/09!

I read all 4 books prior to watching the movie and I believe that gave me more of an appreciation for the movie. The Cullens aren't just beautiful people on the screen to me. Reading the books allows you to get to know each character more intimately. Watching the movie is a wonderful compliment to the books and a great way to put a face to a name.

I was totally uninterested in Twilight in any shape, form or fashion but my co-worker talked me into the books. She had such enthusiasm for Edward and Bella, so I eventually gave in. It has been super neat to discuss these books with her and anyone else who loves it like I do.

It's hard to explain what it is about this series but you just want to be a Cullen...it's crazy!!!

New Moon.......OMG!!! :)

Holla if ya hear me!!!

Tybo

My Tybo is 13 today!

Being a teenage mother certainly isn't ideal - but I wouldn't trade one second of the gift God gave me! I'm blessed to call him my son! Thank you Jesus for choosing me to be his mom!

I love you Tyler Evan Glass!

Steven, the pilot

I have 1 big sister and 3 little brothers.
The youngest turned 18 on July 24 and he is a pilot!
He took me up a few weeks ago and I cannot wait to go back!

On Saturday he took my middle little brother, David, flying with him and they flew over the camp where we were. He made several passes and we certainly enjoyed the show!

*this blog is to post the plane pics*
The first two are from my flight and the last two are from the fly-over.

Love to all!! Em

Springville Camp

On Saturday my dad invited us to Springville Camp & Conference for tAdd Imagehe staff end of the year party. Tyler is still not home so Talan invited his cousin, Hunter, to come with us. We had a wonderful time. The day was beautiful, the food was yummy and the company was awesome!

They have a huge slide thingy, the blob, a zip line and several other "water toys".
The boys..... including Josh....had a great time playing in the water.
(Hunter is the one upside down in the air. This back flip was unplanned - but quite impressive!)

Blackberry/Crackberry

Okay - so I wanted/needed a new cell phone....I am very abusive to all cell phones so I can run through them pretty quickly. I have a plan that includes internet so I wanted a phone that would utilize that option more efficiently than my previous phone. I am also a texter so a full type pad was a must.
***I went with the Blackberry***
Ummmmmmm - I guess I should have asked for opinions first b/c I didn't realize how addicting this thing was going to be! I am forever on the little guy.
I went from rarely looking at, much less updating, my facebook to now being on constantly. I will upload a photo in a hot minute. It's too funny!!
I never would have imagined that I would pick up my cell phone to see what I can do with any spare second that I come across. It's a trip.
I had heard it called the Crackberry before - and now I know why.
Anyone else addicted?
Much love, Em

My name is Emily Files & I'm addicted to reality shows

Okay, so earlier this week I mentioned I am a reality show junkie and I'm starting to think I may have some real issues!!

Example: I'm in love with this STUPID, RIDICULOUS show - I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here. Why, oh why, did I sit infront of the TV for 2 hours last night (and the night before) and watch this show? Not to mention the time I spent watching So You Think You Can Dance.....and the additional time I invested in RW/RR Challenge, The Duel. Luckily for me - and my family - I use the DVR so the hours are minimized and I watched the latter two into the AM. (watching reality into the AM could be an additional mark against me!)

Another example: Last night one of my besties who lives in Memphis (my sweet Melissa) texted to ask if I had watched DOL yesterday. And with that, what was the first thing that popped into my mind??? Daisy Of Love - that's right.......Daisy Of Love - not Days Of Our Lives......the show she was actually referring to! Days of Our Lives has been a staple in my life for as long as I can remember. I mean when Belle and Shawn Douglas broke up the first time and he was with MeMe I thought I would just D.I.E. and then when Shawn and MeMe broke up....you guessed it - same reaction. I get super attached to to my extended family in Salem! So when my sweet Melissa asks me if I saw DOL I disrespected my beloved Days of Our Lives with a trashy reality show......
I think it may be time for an intervention!!!

Ummmm....but can it wait until the season finale of The Duel on next Wednesday!!

Love to all today and the next.....Em

Boat Ride

Beautiful Logan Martin sunset

Talan - he thinks he has abs!

Naomi enjoying the boat ride.....I think! :)

Mommy and her princess, Naomi

We decided to go to the lake on Sunday for a boat ride. My mom wanted us to bring Naomi so we did. This was her first trip to the lake and I think she enjoyed it! Well - except for the part when I tricked her into getting into the water....she wasn't so happy about that!!

Anyway - we had a fun couple of hours on the water. We usually go to the lake and hang out with family and friends so it was nice to go up just for a boat ride!

Television

woo-hoo....FINALLY!! Army Wives is back baby!!
Season 3 begins Sunday @9pm!!
I can't wait to see where Emmalyn has run off too - and what will happen when Joan is deployed to Iraq! I'm excited about e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g single thing!!
I love to watch TV - but mainly reality tv. I do have some tv-tv that I love to watch though, and Army Wives is one of them!! Grey's Anatomy is gone until next season so I'm even more excited about the new season of Army Wives!!
Here is a list of some of the shows I love:
  • Deadliest Catch (not the typical reality show)
  • TMZ
  • Daisy Of Love
  • RR/RW challenge - The Duel
  • So You Think You Can Dance
  • The Hills (sad to see LC leave!)
  • Jon & Kate plus 8
  • Days of Our Lives
  • Charm School
  • Real World

What shows do you love? Do you have the same guilty pleasure as I do = REALITY tv?

Okay sorry for rambling.....ofcourse I am just apologizing to myself b/c no one actually reads this stuff!! lol - I know....my blog is not so hot! haha
Love to all! E-dogg

Blog? Sure, why not?!

~RANDOMNESS~

What's up? I hope everyone had a nice Mother's Day! (and if you aren't a mother, I hope you had a nice Sunday!) I had a great day visiting with my mom and Me-Me at the lake along with my aunt, uncle and cousins - oh and my precious Granddaddy!! It was a rainy but wonderful day!

Once that visit was over, we headed to the hospital to visit my other grandmother who had a fall last week. She is recovering well - and we had a great time hanging with her. She is so funny to me!! We laughed and laughed!! My step-daddy is so much like his mom and it's a trip!!!

I haven't seen my sister since March so I missed her on Mother's Day this year. I'm hoping to go down to see her soon. (She lives in Gulf Shores!) I haven't gotten to see my nephew, Cam, play baseball - ever - so once Talan's season is over, I am anxious to drive down for a game.

Also, I have 3 little brothers: Jason is graduating UAB this year and David & Steven are graduating high school. I cannot believe how quickly the time has gone by. Tyler starts junior high next school year and Talan will start middle school. Holy Smokes!! Oh - and my niece will be getting her driver's permit - WHAT?????

Geez....I can't believe it, but I can't stop it!
Love and Blessings to all!!

Grasshoppers

Talan has been playing in his pre-season tournament this week. Monday we lost by one point. (The worst kind of loss!) Talan played well. He caught an awesome pop fly and got a great hit resulting in a home run!

Last night we lost again. This time we were beat at home plate. We just weren't hitting the ball BUT in defense of the Grasshoppers - we went down swinging!

I thought our coach had a great line for the end of game huddle - he said, "I hope it hurt to lose, that way we won't do it anymore" - I thought that was quite fitting. Losing does hurt - but someone has too!

We finish the tourney tomorrow @ 10am....weather permitting ofcourse!

Garden

I'm so excited!
It's time to start planning our garden for 2009.
Last year my mom bought a tiller so naturally Josh had to play with it.
The outcome: a Files garden! :)
We ended up giving away more than we kept last year which was a treat as well. It was nice to share and then hear the different ways everyone prepared their veggies!
I cannot wait to get started! I'll let you know what we end up with!
Blessings........

praise and worship

Last night I was flipping through the channels and found GMC, Gospel Music Channel.
Jeremy Camp was on sort of 'un-plugged' if you will.
I turned my lights off, closed my eyes, rested on my bed and just felt.....restored. I really needed to have that time.

So today I decided to get my CD's out and I first chose one labeled "faves". It was one I had burned for myself. OH MY GOODNESS! I am soooooo encouraged right now.

I am remembering something I heard long ago and it stuck with me b/c for me it's true. Music is a gateway. WOW, is that true for me. Think about it - music can take you back to a time in your life, good or bad. A song can take you back to a place you once were, or a person you once knew. That can be good or bad. I chose to stop listening to things that took me back to where I no longer wanted to go and that changed my life. It was a great release for me b/c I was weak to the music from my past.

I haven't been listening to my praise and worship music which is a wonderful gateway that I NEEDED! I need that music to inspire and encourage me.

Right now I am listening to a beautiful song - from awhile ago.
On My Cross. The words say:
*those were my nails, that was my crown, that pierced Your hands and Your brow.
*those were my thorns, those were my scorns, those were my tears, that fell down.
*and just as You said it would be, You did it all for me.
*after You counted the cost, You took my shame, my blame, on my cross......

I love that. It's so true! That's why I love praise and worship music! YAY!!

I must, must, must keep my p&w in my life - it's such encouragement to stay connected with my Lord and Savior - JESUS!

I almost forgot - Talan decided....at the very last minute....that he was going to play baseball this year. He took last year off and is excited to get back into it. I personally was looking forward to the "summer off" but I'm sure it will be fun! Good luck T!

BaBy FeVeR

On January 22 I told you about a new baby on the way....her name is Addison Brooke but they call her Addie. Well - I had the honor of loving on this little baby Friday night and she is just amazing!! She is so sweet and content and BEAUTIFUL!!

Then, on Saturday, we were helping Josh's cousin move and they had friends over with a little angel, Riley. I also had the honor of loving on this little princess.

So now I have to admit I HAVE BABY FEVER! I have been thinking about it for quite some time now and it only got worse this weekend. I kept asking Josh if he saw how good I looked with a baby! (a little girl, no less) haha

Now anyone who knows me knows that baby fever is something I have never been able to relate to so I'm alittle confused by this new emotion.

Everyone pray with me.......this too shall pass! :)

**Much love to all**

Jesus Is My Valentine

I am a Christian. I love Jesus and I am super grateful for all the blessings in my life - that I do not deserve, might I add! He has been forever good to me, never leaving my side!

I have 4 favorite t-shirts....I am wearing one of them right now! Anyway.....one of them has the phrase "Jesus is my homeboy" on it. I think it's cute but more than that, I believe it....He is my homeboy ~ He's my friend! He's always there. He doesn't talk behind my back. When I can't sleep, He listens to me! And even though I'm a horrible example of a follower and I fail daily, He loves me unconditionally! Even when I fall - He reaches down to pick me up, the list goes on and on. What a friend! What a "homeboy"! And today, not only is Jesus my homeboy, JESUS IS MY VALENTINE!

He gives much better gifts than roses and candy. Those things are nice - don't get me wrong - but His gifts are stuff like peace that passes all understanding...and grace beyond measure...and love when we don't deserve it...and joy that comes when it seems impossible.

I just wanted to give my Savior some props! :)
Thank you Jesus for being my Valentine......and my everything else!!

Is He your Valentine too?!?

Hobby

Per dictionary.com the definition of hobby is an activity or interest pursued for pleasure or relaxation and not as a main occupation.
I have been researching my ancestry for almost a year now and have JUST realized it's a hobby! I am enjoying myself more than I could ever have imagined! I have made trips out of town and am planning more.
I can go back to the 1800's on my dad's side. It is on my dad's mothers side that I have been totally fascinated - in my searching I have found two great-great uncles that killed people. While this is not something to be proud of you have to admit that it's interesting. I feel like I know these men personally through all the info I have collected.
One is my Uncle Riley. (I do refer to the people in my past as if they were alive during my lifetime - ex: "Uncle" Riley) Riley Herrington shot his wife and a man he believed to be her lover with a gun he purchased on the way home that very day.....talk about premeditation! The lover, Charles Howze, was in some way or another, related to Riley's wife - but he believed them to be in a relationship.
Uncle Will (John William) had a bit of a different situation with the crime he committed. Apparently he had been drinking and had a woman in the car with him that wasn't his wife. He hit and killed a man while driving drunk. The young lady in the car with him begged him to stop but he would not. They were both charged and convicted for the murder of James M. Cofer several days later.
These crimes were commited in the 1920's in Macon, GA.

I have been in contact with some distanct cousins and am looking forward to sharing info. As of right now, I have more info to offer than to receive from these contacts but I am hoping for photos! I have only one photo of my great-grandfather, Jesse James Herrington - and that is the only photo I have of the entire Herrington family! I have a long way to go.......

Army Wives....and Josh Alan

I was so pumped about season 3 of Army Wives that I thought was going to be back on Jan 18. So as you can imagine I was not a happy camper with the re-run that was in it's place! :(
It looks like we will not know where Emmalin and Logan are until JUNE!! That's a bummer!

On another note - my beautiful husband, of almost 10 years, will be turning 30 on Thursday! Happy Birthday Lover!!
